Reinhard Riedel

Reinhard Riedel (born 1955 in Ebersberg, Germany) is a contemporary figurative artist based in Glonn, Germany. A self-taught painter with a background in computer science and mathematics, Riedel’s practice explores the intersection of realism, craftsmanship, and digitally influenced visual culture.

After completing his studies at the Technical University of Munich, Riedel spent more than three decades in senior management positions within the IT sector before fully dedicating himself to art. Coming from a family of craftsmen, his artistic development has been deeply informed by hands-on experience with materials, tools, and traditional making processes.

Riedel works primarily with mixed media, combining airbrush, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and colored pencil techniques. His compositions are carefully constructed using both analog and digital methods, resulting in works characterized by exceptional depth of color, surface texture, and detail. Rather than abstraction, his work remains firmly rooted in figurative and realistic imagery, often drawing inspiration from fashion photography and photographic manipulation.

The artist cites Gottfried Helnwein as a key influence, particularly in his approach to visual intensity and psychological presence.
